Preserving the Natural Beauty of Stone

Architecture By: Mark Myers Architect

In preserving the former beauty of this stone farmhouse, we studied photographs of the property spanning back 200 years for inspiration. The architect was able to retell the original story outside, protecting the character of the initial structure while adding back a southern facing addition to house a new kitchen and multiple baths.

From an old barn that had once stood on the property, a new chimney and foundation were fashioned from its salvaged stone. Repointing sealed the massive stone walls. Fresh mortar, new windows and frames outfitted the home with daylight. Updates and gathering places in the kitchen and surrounding spaces uncovered the home’s soul, regaining an honored place in this family’s history.
